How to wire and apply electroluminescent paint

How to wire and apply electroluminescent paint is the most asked question that we have received. If you would like to apply your paint on speed-shapes you need to think about the connection points and the bus-bar first. It is actually very simple and we will show you how to do this in the picture tutorial below.
Every project is different however from logic or operation it is always the same.

How to wire the speed shape.

  1. Determine place of connection.
  2. Place copper tape.
  3. Drill two small holes.
  4. Put wire through holes.
  5. Fix the 2 wires with copper tape on top.
  6. Put masking tape on one of the connection points.
  7. Apply LitCoat 1 conductive layer paint.

It is also possible to make connection points without drilling holes, wrap the copper tape – over the edge of the speed-shape, connect and fix the wire on the backside of the speed shape.

In general: before painting, always fixate the wires to avoid over-spray on the wire connection points and so the wire does not get in the way with the spray process.

Always clean your copper tape thoroughly with alcohol/IPA/rubbing alcohol, as there is always some glue/grease left on the top of your copper tape. You need to remove this!

Have you noticed that our superior electroluminescent paint is available with 80%+ discount, compared to other EL Paint suppliers!

Do not forget to mask the other connection point to avoid over spraying.
